Apply using the Applicant Portal
The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal. There, you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and you can also request your references.
An application is only complete when:
- you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
- you have paid the application fee if applicable. For further information on application fees, and which courses require an application fee, see here.
- your referees have provided their references.
If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.
Selection Process
Applications are normally considered on a rolling basis, therefore, applicants will receive decisions throughout the period the admissions window is open. Please note however that applications may be gathered at periods associated with central funding deadlines when admissions are at their peak.
For particularly popular options with limited places, it may be necessary to hold applicants on a reserve list until the full number and strength of applications are clear.
Applicants are particularly advised to note relevant funding deadlines when making their application. Applicants who apply in the run up to the January funding competition deadline will be reviewed in December-January and can usually expect to receive a decision in February. Applications made after this deadline will be considered from February onwards and decisions will usually be made within 12 weeks unless applicants are placed on a reserve list due to a limit on available places. Interviews are not mandatory but may be held (usually virtually) at the panel's discretion.
For more information, please see here.

How to Find a Supervisor
Applicants for the MPhil in Human Evolutionary Studies are strongly advised to consider who amongst the staff match their research interests and could supervise their MPhil research project. Information about all staff can be found on the Department website, and they can be contacted by email, details of which are provided on their profile page. Although applicants may name a supervisor in the application with whom they have not had contact, they are strongly advised to discuss their interests with a potential supervisor, as well as their availability to supervise the project.
